New Caledonian Geckos
Many species of geckos endemic have become very popular in the terrarium hobby. Their personalities and attractive colouration are hard to beat. Crested and gargoyle geckos will frequently tolerate handling and rarely bite once used to humans. An ever growing number of colour morphs keeps these animals popular.
Generally speaking, room temperature with a slightly warmer basking spot will work well. Nightly misting will adequately raise humidity
Rhacodactylus, Mniarogekko and Correlophus species can be kept in large plastic bins or glass terrariums. Simple setups with papertowel substrate and some climbing branches or even pieces of pool noodles are practical for breeders, however a naturalistic setup is more appealing and is likely more stimulating for the geckos. Rhacodactylus leachianus, R. trachyrhynchus, R. trachycephalus and Mniarogekko chahoua will do best in larger vivaria of 90 cm (36 in) in height.
Most will eat commercial diets as well as insects, which makes care and feeding easy.
I currently keep Correlophus ciliatus, Rhacodactylus leachianus, R. trachycephalus, R. auriculatus and Mniarogekko chahoua.
